Novak Djokovic had a rather weird 2022. The Serbian sensation could not participate in many top tournaments because he refused to be vaccinated for the coronavirus. Novak was denied playing the Australian Open and the US Open alongside some other ATP1000 events (Indian Wells, Miami, the Rogers Cup in Canada, and Cincinnati). Djokovic won Wimbledon, but he did not get the “usual” 2,000 points after the ATP reacted to the weird decision of the championships to ban the participation of players from Russia and Belarus (ie. no points awarded for Wimbledon)
Djokovic’s father’s theories
While Novak is widely considered one of the most gracious personalities in sports, he often has to deal with some quirky comments from his father Srdjan that are often damaging for him. When talking on K1 television, Srdjan vented his frustration against a sort of conspiracy about his son.
“I want to say that Novak is not only the best tennis player but also a man. It’s a stunning enigma to me how they didn’t let him play in Melbourne and New York, but they let him play in London.
Here, I don’t know. He probably showed them that he is the best there, so they stopped him from going to New York
. And those points from London were not accepted,” said Srdjan.Djokovic’s father’s allegations are completely unfounded. In fact, Novak could not play the Australian Open and the US Open because they were a set of rules that had to apply to everyone in the world (no vaccine, no entry). Furthermore, the ATP announced that there were no points for players competing in Wimbledon much before Djokovic won the Championships. Therefore, there was no conspiracy against Novak.
