Iga Swiatek had a fantastic 2022 ending the season at the top of the rankings after winning as many as 8 tournaments. Iga was the top favorite to conquer the WTA Finals, but eventually she was upset by Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals. Swiatek wasn’t very pleased about the organization of the Finals to comment:
“I have never experienced the WTA Finals at its peak in terms of organization. I would like the WTA to stabilize in one place and not do things so rushed, changing locations every year. But on the other hand, I understand why it happened and how much it is difficult to organize this type of event.”
Indeed, after a successful stint in Singapore, things went down for the WTA Finals. Before the season’s finale was moved to Shenzhen, but the event was played only in 2019 (and without many vibes) because of the coronavirus. The event was not staged in 2020 and then it was moved to Guadalajara (2021) and Fort Worth (2022). Unfortunately, also this year the turnout of people was quite modest.
