Sharapova beats world no.95 in 3 sets

Maria Sharapova had to face a tough match against world no.95 Alexandra Dulgheru from Romania. The Russian Beauty had to rally from 1 set down to finally win 4-6 6-3 6-2. The match changed completely in the 4th game of the 2nd set (Maria was 6-4 2-2 down) as the world no.6 won 8 of the following 9 games to lead 4-0 in the decider. The match ended just after 2 hours.

Sharapova: She played really well

After the mach Maria commented “She played really well. I started off really well, but didn’t take the opportunity to go up 3-0. Then she started getting a little bit of a rhythm. The conditions were tough. You start in the sun; you finish under the lights. It was a very long match, but in the end I felt like I was in superior shape and could have played a few more sets. Mentally, that helped me a lot.

It’s really good to get through a match like this, where you put yourself in a really tough position, but then you’re able to find a way to get back in it and finish really strong.”

Next vs. Lisicki

Maria will play Sabine Lisicki in the next round. Head to head is 5-1 for Maria that has defeated the German 6-2 7-5 last time in Madrid.
