US Open drama: Murray reaches the 2nd round after mysterious cramps

What a tough opener for Andy Murray.

The Scott suffered from some mysterious cramps just after 1 hour and 45 minutes into the match against Haase. The things looked rather bad after Andy lost the third set and he was 1-4 down in the forth. Finally Murray managed to regroup to win the 4th set and grab the match before going to the 5th set. Murray: I don’t know what that was

Andy commented “I don’t know what it was. I was cramping after one hour and 45 minutes. I didn’t know what to do in the third set. I started to get it in my laterals and forearms when I was serving. I didn’t know whether to conserve energy or try to finish it.

I tried to hang around and tried to play without using my legs much. I managed to get through. These slams are physically challenging, but I need to work out why it happened. It shouldn’t have happened, regardless of the temperature.”

Next vs. Bachinger

Andy will play world 235 Matthias Bachinger in the 2nd round. That’s great news for the Scott that should have a “soft match” to test his conditions.
