Roger Federer breaks another record. The Swiss Maestro is the first man in tennis history to have won 300 matches in the ATP Masters.
This feat came after a not so perfect match where both Roger and Vasek Pospisil were struggling a bit. After winning the first set at the breaker, Roger had to bow in the second after conceding his service in the 12th game (7-5). In the decider Pospisil disappeared after winning the first game to lose 5 consecutive games (1-5) and finally lose the match 7-6 (4) 5-7 6-2.
Some Numbers
Even if Roger wasn’t very happy for his performance, he scored many more points than Pospisil (102 vs 85). He was very solid on his serve to fire 6 aces (0 double faults) and win 75% of the points on his first serve and 81% on the second. Match Stats
Federer: The ATP1000 are the backbone of the Tour
Roger was happy for reaching the 300 wins record to comment “The Masters 1000s are the backbone of the tour. I know a lot of people talk about the Grand Slams; we care dearly about them, but the majority of the tournaments are Masters 1000s, 500s or 250s. We have a certain obligation to play the 1000s, and I think that’s why they’re so popular, that’s why the people show up because they know that the best players will most likely play. I have a few exempts because I’ve been on tour for a very long time so I don’t have to always play, but I choose to because they’re very prestigious and I love playing them, so I’m happy I’m here.”
