Cincinnati: Isner dismisses Anderson; spectacular Monfils edges Delbonis

John Isner finally wins a match!

The American no.1 crashed out in the openers of Washington and Toronto to finally get to the second round in Cincinnati.

John was very self-confident about his chances in the American summer after winning the tournament in Atlanta; then he had to step back after the last 2 weeks. Now it’s time to rebound. The American has played a very solid match against Anderson to break him once in both sets. John was always in form control of his service games (he struggled just in the 8th games of the second set) to be a constant threat on Kevin’serve. John will now face Marinko Matosevic in the second round. Head to head is 2-0 for Isner.

Monfils

The Frenchman had another of his super spectacular matches plenty of hot shots (see the one above) to finally defeat Delbonis 6-3 3-6 6-3 (Match Stats).

Fognini

The Italian is still miles away from his best tennis to defeat Roger-Vasselin 6-4 4-6 7-6(5) after a 2 hours and 37 minutes struggle. Fognini will play Hewitt in the next round. Head to head is 1-0 for Fabio.
