Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud were considered the players to watch so soon after the US Open. Surprisingly both of them disappointed their fans this week after losing as early as in the first round in straight sets. Carlito lost to lucky loser David Goffin 7-5 6-3 in Astana, recording the first straight-sets loss of the season. Casper Ruud was completely out of sorts against Jaume Antoni Munar Clar when losing 6-3 6-3 In Tokyo.
They provided the following explanations. “I have to learn from matches like this. The court is too slow. It was tough to adapt,” said Alcaraz.
“I probably made a mistake scheduling these events in Asia. I’m playing too many tournaments,” commented Ruud.
Both players are not scheduled to play in any tournaments in the next 20 days. While Casper Ruud may take a well-deserved break, Carlito may add an ATP250 to test his tennis.

Now ranked no.1, Alcaraz played his last match on the 4th of October when he was defeated by world no.66 David Goffin 7-5 6-3 in the 1st round in Astana (draw).
This season Carlos has managed to achieve a 52-11 match record. The Spaniard clinched 5 titles in 2022 in Rio de Janeiro, Miami, Barcelona, Madrid and U.S. Open. Alcaraz was the runner-up in Hamburg and in Umag.
Alcaraz will play next in Basel (Swiss Indoors Basel). He will commence the tournament from the main draw on the 24th of October.
Casper Ruud in 2022
Ranked world no.3, Casper played his last match on the 4th
of October when he was overcome by world no.58 Jaume Antoni Munar Clar 6-3 6-3 in the 1st round in Tokyo (draw).Currently, during this season Casper has a compiled 47-18 match record. Casper clinched 3 titles in 2022 in Buenos Aires, Geneva and Gstaad. Casper got to the final in Miami, at the French Open and at the U.S. Open.
Ruud has scheduled to play next in Basel (Swiss Indoors Basel). He will begin to play the tournament from the main draw on the 24th of October.
