Serena wins the title in Stanford!

Serena Williams is back and she is still very eager to keep on dominating the WTA circuit!

The world no.1 had a great tournament in Stanford to win the 4th title of the season, the 61st of her incredible career.

In the final against Angelique Kerber, Serena managed to overcome a terrible start in style. The world no.1 was 1-5 down in the opener to win 5 consecutive games, save a couple of set points and grab the first set at the tiebreak.  That was enough to destroy Angelique’s morale; the German collapsed in the second set to be broken twice and lose 6-3.

Some Numbers

Serena won 82 points vs. Kerber’s 62. The American wasn’t great in her break points conversion (only 4 on 12) and she wasn’t able to defend the break point conceded (2 on 2). Match Stats

Serena: I am on the right track again

Williams commented “When I was down 5-1, I was just thinking I had to take it one point at a time. I knew I just had to relax and not be so crazy. Up until that point I wasn’t doing what I wanted to do, and what I had been doing in practice, so I knew I just had to start doing the right things going forward.

I feel like I’m on the right track again. I feel like I can play even better – I wasn’t serving my best, and I wasn’t making as many winners off the return as I wanted to, but I think I’m getting there.”

With this win Serena consolidates her rank no.1 in the WTA circuit and she moves from being no.6 to no.4 in the Road to Singapore rankings.
