Novak Djokovic his fully focused in qualifying for the ATP Finals in Turin

Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic is finally back in competition after more than 2 months. The Serbian sensation played an emotional Laver Cup over the weekend and he has set up the schedule for the rest of the season. Novak said that he has the intention to play in Tel Aviv this week before competing in Astana soon after and then play the Masters 1000 in Paris, hoping to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin.

How Djokovic can qualify for the ATP Finals

Unfortunately, he was not allowed to play many tournaments this season because he decided not to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. That means that even if he is one of the strongest players in the world, Novak is only number 15 in the race. Usually, to qualify for the ATP Finals, a player needs to be in the top 8 in the race. Nevertheless, Novak can still be part of the Finals because there is a rule that if a player wins a slam in a given year, he can still qualify if he is in the top 20.

The wrist injury

Novak had a little setback during the Laver Cup where he was struggling with a right wrist injury. Therefore, it’s a question mark if he will be able to compete in the scheduled events.

“Well, the goal is to try to make Turin,” Novak commented. “I’m in a good position, still, I think 15 or 16 on the  Race. You’ve got to be top 20 as a Grand Slam winner. That’s the rule in order to make the cut and qualify for Turin.

I will play Tel Aviv next week and play a 500 in Kazakhstan, and then the schedule was to play Bercy and Turin. So let’s see if it stays this way or if something changes. But my thoughts are obviously the next few weeks and then I will take it from there.”
