Carlos Alcaraz has always stated that Roger Federer is his childhood idol and he wished he could play against him. Unfortunately, the Swiss Maestro has just announced his retirement from professional tennis and he played his last match with Rafael Nadal at the current Laver Cup.

Why did Alcaraz not play the Laver Cup

In a recent interview, Roger Federer said that he tried to have Carlos Alcaraz playing for Team Europe. Unfortunately, the new world number 1 had to decline the invitation since he played too much in the previous 2 months.

Roger disclosed: “We tried to bring Alcaraz to the Laver Cup this year, but he said: ‘Look, it could be a little too much’… Hopefully, he will play next year.”
