EXPLAINED. Why Raducanu changed so many coaches, while Alcaraz didn’t

Emma Raducanu's coach Dmitry Tursunov explains why she changed her coaching team so much in contrast with what Carlos Alcaraz has been doing

Emma Raducanu And Coach Tursunov

Emma Raducanu in the last year hit the headlines many times for continuously changing her coach. Nigel Sears coached Emma in Wimbledon 2021 where she had a good run (she reached the 2nd week). Soon after, she partnered with Andrew Richardson to win the US Open. Soon after conquering the American slam, Emma split with Andrew to hire Torben Belz, who lasted only a few months.

Back in the day, Emma’s current coach Dmitry Tursunov said that it would be crazy to become her coach because that role would be too unstable. Later the Russian coach accepted an offer from Emma. He now discloses that the British sensation has been erratic with her coaching team because she couldn’t build a proper connection.

Dmitry commented:

I liked her explanation of the fact that she hasn’t been able to find someone she truly connects with and I respect that.

Ultimately you want a coach that understands where you’re coming from. It’s easier to connect and some of the things you don’t have to explain. It helps to have a good connection with someone and that explanation makes sense to me.”

Alcaraz and his coach Ferrero

Spanish sensation and current world no.1 Carlos Alcaaz went through a completely different route. Carlito has a great connection with his current coach Juan Carlos Ferrero who has been grooming him for many years. Alcaraz has even stated that he would refuse to be they are coached by his childhood hero Roger Federer if he had to ditch Juan Carlos.
