Marta Kostyuk lost a straight-set match agaisnt Victoria Azarenka in the US Open 2nd round. Unfortunately, the Ukrainian teenager didn’t shine after losing the match after refusing the handshake to Vika. Azarenka is from Belarus, a country that has been helping Russia in its senseless invasion of Ukraine. However, Azarenka has always been extremely vocal against the war.
As reported by well-known journalist James Gray, Marta commented:
“I just don’t think it’s the right thing to do in the circumstances I’m in right now. We had a great match, don’t get me wrong. She’s a great competitor, I respect her as an athlete but that has nothing to do with her being a human being.”
