Ferrer crashes Zverev’s dreams in Hamburg

David Ferrer is still too much for Alexander Zverev!

The seed no.1 had the task to overcome the new tennis sensation in the Hamburg semifinal, but apparently that wasn’t a huge challenge after all.

Alexander didn’t look to be a great threat also because he appeared a bit tired after his great run in this tournament. David struggled just in the very first game when he committed a couple of double faults and he battled to keep his serve. Then… bye bye the Spaniard won 7 consecutive games to finally win 6-0 6-1.

Some numbers

There is not much to say. Ferrer scored more than double the points of Zverev (57-26). The German didn’t manage to break David in the entire match while he conceded his serve 5 times (on 8 break points). Match Stats

Ferrer: He lost focus

David commented “I tried to play point by point and focused within myself. Maybe when I won the third game of the second set, when I broke him, he lost a little bit of his focus and the last two or three games he made more mistakes because he started playing well the second set. It was an important moment.”

Next vs. Mayer

David will play world no.46 Leonardo Mayer in the final. Head to head is 1-0 for David that is the favorite for the title (that would be his 22nd)
