Zverev stuns Djokovic to win the ATP Finals

Sascha plays an astonishing final to dismiss Djokovic in straight sets

Zverev wins the ATP Finals

Sascha Zverev stuns the tennis world after a fantastic win in the final in London over Novak Djokovic.

The match

There were question marks about how Sascha would have handled the final after coming out from a rather turbulent semi (see article). Eventually, the German came on court with a rock-solid focus to upset the great Novak Djokovic.

First set

Nole and Sascha went toe to toe till the end of the 1st set when Djokovic was broken after he netted an ordinary forehand (5-4). The German had to “just” hold the following service game to win the opener 6-4.

Second set

Sascha started in the best possible way the following set after breaking Djokovic again in the 1st game (1-0). However, when Djokovic broke back immediately (1-1), it seemed as the world no.1 was posed to get back the match (business as usual). Still, Zverev disagreed with that, and he broke Nole again in the 3rd game (2-1) before consolidating his lead (3-1). Sascha impressed again later after he broke Djokovic for the 4th time in the last game before winning the match 6-4 6-3 in just 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Proud to win this title. ZVEREV

When asked by reporters how he is feeling after winning this title and following 2 prestigious back to back wins over Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, Sascha replied

“Obviously it’s quite astonishing, winning this title, beating two such players back-to-back, Roger and Novak, in semifinals and finals. Means so much. I’m incredibly happy and incredibly proud of this moment right now.”

This is Zverev’s 10th career title, the 4th of the season and things get more and more promising for the next year for the German.
