Another day, another straight sets win for Novak Djokovic.
The world no.1Â claims another scalp in this ATP Finals after he defeated John Isner 6-4 6-3, Sascha Zverev 6-4 6-1, and now Marin Cilic 7-6 (7) 6-2.
The match against Cilic
The match was all about the first set. In fact, both players had very solid service games with the exception of the 6th (3-3)that Cilic won after a lot of struggle. Then the affair went to a tense tiebreak and Djokovic had even to save a set point when he was 5-6 down before winning the breaker at 7.
The second set was one-way traffic. In fact, while Marin was struggling to hold every single service game, Djokovic conceded just 3 points in total on serve. The set was decided after the world no.1 won 5 consecutive games to reverse a 1-2Â deficit in a 6-2 win. The contest ended after 1 hour and 35 minutes.
The first set decided the match
After the match, Nole commented
“I knew before the match that I had qualified for the semi-finals and I knew who I am playing tomorrow night. It was easy to approach this match with 100 per cent willingness to win it.
I have been in similar situations before. These things can happen and both of us really wanted to win from the first point. It was a very close first set which probably decided the match.”
The semifinal
Djokovic will play the semifinal against Kevin Anderson. The head to head is 7-1 for the Serb.
TOO GOOD… AGAIN!
