RANKINGS. Nadal, Tsitsipas, Alcaraz, Ruud can become world no.1 after US Open

5 players have the opportunity to we ranked the number 1 after the US Open.

World No.1 Race

Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud have the opportunity to become the new world number 1 after the US Open. Zverev and Djokovic are not part of this scenario because the German has withdrawn and Nole almost for sure will not be allowed to enter the USA because he is unvaccinated.

World no.1 scenarios

Nadal will definitely be the new world no.1 if he wins the US Open. He will also be no.1 if he reaches the final and Medvedev doesn’t win the tournament if she doesn’t. Curiously, Nadal can become the world no.1 if he doesn’t play or he loses in the 1st round and none of the other players reach the final.

Medvedev will retain his world no.1 rank if he successfully defends his title or he reaches the final and his rivals do not win the tournament and Nadal doesn’t reach the semifinal.

Tsitsipas will be the world no.1 if he wins the tournament and Nadal is not the runner-up. Alternatively, he will be no.1 if he reaches the final and the other rivals do not win the tournament and Nadal doesn’t reach the semifinal.

Alcaraz and Ruud follow the same logic as Tsitsipas, but also Nadal should not get to the quarters if they are the runner-up.  There, they will be the world no.1 if they wins the tournament and Nadal is not the runner-up. Alternatively, he will be no.1 if he reaches the final and the other rivals do not win the tournament, and Nadal doesn’t reach the quarterfinal.

Here is a table to summarize the scenarios.
