Bad news for Victoria Azarenka fans. Unfortunately, the Belorussian player did not manage to have her visa approved. Vika has been living in the US for a long time, but that was not enough for her to enter Canada. The reason that the authorities declined Vika’s visa may be related to the fact that she could be seen close to the Belarussian president Aleksandr Lukashenko.
Fortunately, Azarenka will play in Cincinnati. This was her post:

I wanted to inform you that I unfortunately have to withdraw from the tournament in Toronto due to my visa not being approved.
It’s truly disappointing.
It’s very sad to miss one of my favorite tournaments. I love to play in Canada with great fans and a place where I made many friends over the years.
