Genie Bouchard reaches the Wimbledon final!

It’s Bouchard time!

The “New Sharapova” keeps up with the expectations to be 1 step away from a glorious first slam.  Genie had a great semifinal against world no.3 Simona Halep to defeat her in straight sets. The match lasted only 1 set. After exchanging breaks in the 3rd and 4th game, the pair went straight to a crucial tiebreak that Genie won at 5. From that moment, Simona got lost. After leading 1-0 in the second set, the Romanian lost 5 consecutive games (1-5) to finally lose 7-6 (5) 6-2. Finally Genie scored 81 points vs. Simona’s 66. Match Stats.

Genie: I am not surprised to be in the final

A very confident Bouchard commented “It was a little crazy – I’ve never really ended a match like that. I’m just happy I kept my focus and didn’t get distracted or anything and played well in the last game.

I’m not surprised to be in the final, because I’ve put in a lot of hard work and it’s been years in the making. I believe in myself and I expect good results and I always want more. I’ve had a good start to the season, but I expect myself to do even better than that and that’s what I’m going to try and do.”

The final vs. Kvitova

Genie will play 2011 Wimbledon Champion Petra Kvitova for the title. Petra defeated her friend Lucie Safarova 7-6 (6) 6-1 in the semi. Head to head is 1-0 for Petra that has defeated Genie last year in Toronto 6-3 6-2. This year it might be different.
