Federer 2 wins away from title no.100

Roger dismisses Nishikori in straight sets to face Djokovic in the semifinal

Federer

Roger Federer is getting better and better in Paris.

The Swiss sensation had no problems in dismissing Kei Nishikori in the quarters in straight sets after an extremely clean performance.

The match

Roger and Kei went toe to toe for the most part of the match. The only difference was a stint that started in the second half of the 1st set when Roger won 5 consecutive games to reverse a 3-4 scoreline in a 6-4 2-0 lead.  A great point for the Swiss is that for the first time in 2 weeks he was much more stable on serve and he was never broken for the entire encounter. This means that 1 break per set was enough for him to seal the deal and win 6-4 6-4.

Roger can also be elated by the very small amount of time that he has spent on court during the competition. In fact, while he didn’t play in the first 2 rounds (a bye in the 1st and Raonic injured in the 2nd), it took just 73 minutes to beat Fognini in the 3rd round and 79 minutes to defeat Nishikori. This means that he will have all the required energies to face Djokovic in the semifinal.

The semis vs. Djokovic

Roger will face Novak Djokovic in a blockbuster semifinal. The Serbian Legend is on a 21-matches winning streak while Roger has won the last 7.

The head to head is 24-22 for Djokovic that is also leading 5-4 on indoor matches. This is going to be interesting!
