Emma Raducanu has a somewhat peculiar career. The British sensation won a rather unexpected US Open title in 2021 after starting her campaign from the qualifications. Emma conquered her maiden major without having any significant experience of playing at the top level.
Interestingly enough, Raducanu had to be acclimatized to the WTA tour in the following months, which was not easy.
During a recent press conference in Washington, Emma commented about her recent year to say:
“Take away the US Open; the results I’ve had in the past year wouldn’t have been terrible for any 18 19-year-old. I have to take a step back and give myself a pat on the back, as well.
This year was always going to be pretty tricky, trying to find my feet at this sort of level. I skipped every stage basically. I went from playing a few 25s to playing the top 10 or playing the slams and everything. Still managed to win a round or two in some bigger events. I’m quite proud of myself in that way.”
Referring to her struggle and learning curve, she added:
“I’ve learnt that I’m pretty resilient. I’ve pretty much been knocked down every single week literally in front of everyone, get back up every single time.
It’s just a fun learning experience for me. I would say that.”

LWWLLWWLWW Ranked world no.10 (career-high), the Brit has managed to achieve a compiled 10-12 win-loss record in 2022. Emma is participating in Washington where she managed to beat the world no.216 Louisa Chirico 6-4 6-2.
Emma Raducanu will square off with the world no.67 Maria Camila Osorio Serrano in the 2nd round on Thursday at 2:30 pm on STADIUM. They have never competed against each other up to now in top tournaments.
