Sascha Zverev looks more and more solid.
The upcoming German reaches the quarters in Paris after beating in straight sets Frances Tiafoe (6-4 6-4) and now Diego Schwartzman.
The match against the Argentine
Sascha didn’t have a great record against Diego as the only time they played was 4 years ago on clay in Kitzbuhel when the Argentine conceded just 1 game (6-1 6-0) to the then 17-year-old. Fast forward to 2018 and they are facing each other again in Paris, but this time that youngster is 21 and he has already won 3 Masters ATP1000, and he is ranked no.5 in the world.
The match looked smooth for the German from the very beginning after he broke Diego in the 3rd game (2-1). That was enough for Sascha to win the opener 6-4. The second set was even smoother with Zverev conquering a fast 5-1 lead before winning the match 6-4 6-2 in just 81 minutes.
Next vs. Khachanov
Sascha will face fellow “nextgen” and world no.18 Karen Khachanov for a place in the semifinal. The head to head is 2-0 for the German that is the hot favorite to reach the final 4.
