19-year-old Kyrgios stuns Nadal in Wimbledon!

You can’t believe it! 19-year-old Nick Kyrgios sends shockwaves in pro tennis after defeating world no.1 Rafael Nadal in Wimbledon.

We knew that Rafa was vulnerable this year at the Championships, but the Spaniard looked immune from big upsets after beating a couple of tricky players in the first rounds.

Nick Kyrgios didn’t have any “big stage fright” to go for the kill from the very beginning. After splitting the first 2 sets, it seemed as the young Australian was doomed. You know? You win a set with Rafa on a big stage and it seems good enough: not for Nick. The guy from Canberra kept on playing at his best delivering amazing shots and firing an astonishing 37 aces.  Rafa couldn’t do more and eventually he had to bow out in 4 sets.

Some Numbers

The first number is 19. This is Nick’s age and he has turned 19 only few months ago (April)! The second number is 37 (the aces Nick blasted at Rafa). In addition Nick blasted 81 winners (77 for Nadal) and he won 83% of the points on his first serve! Match Stats.

Kyrgios: I was in the zone

A jubilant Nick commented “I think I was in a bit of a zone out there. It hasn’t sunk in what just played out out there. I played extraordinary tennis. I was struggling a bit on return, but I worked my way into it. I served at a really good level and I’m really happy.

You’ve got to believe you can win the match from the start and I did. I’m playing unbelievable tennis on the grass. He hit extraordinary shots, but he’s always going to bring that.”

Next with Raonic

Nick will play for the first time Milos Raonic. Head to head is 1-0 for Milos that has beaten the Australian at this year’s French Open 6-3 7-6 (1) 6-3. This time it should be trickier for the Canadian.
