No luck this time for Maria Sharapova.
The Russian Beauty was playing a great tennis during this tournament, but today Kerber was just better in the crucial moments. After splitting the two sets Angelique and Maria put up a great fight in the decider. The German gained a quick 3-0 lead that allowed her to be 5-2 up soon after. At that point Maria tried everything she could to hang around. The Russian won her service game to then break Angelique. Unfortunately Maria became shaky in the following game when she was serving to remain in the match (5-4 for the German). Kerber broke Maria once again after converting her 7th match point.

The German commented “It’s unbelievable. It was such a tough match. We were playing on a really high level, and it was so close – every single set was so close. I’m just happy I won the match – Maria is a great player and plays so well on grass, so this is really just unbelievable.
When I had the three match points at 0-40 I was just trying to focus on myself, play my game and stay aggressive. In the end it worked, and I’m happy I won this battle and am in the quarterfinals now. I enjoyed playing on Centre Court. I think the fans enjoyed it too. It was an amazing atmosphere.”
Next vs. Bouchard
Now Angelique will play the “New Sharapova” Genie Bouchard for a place in the semifinal. Head to head is 1 all, but Genie has recently trashed Angelique in the French Open 4th round 6-1 6-2.Bouchard can be the favorite to get to the final 4.
