Zverev congratulates Tsitsipas and Shapovalov for their season

The German has great words for the other "other" young guns.

Zverev Tsitsipas

The season is almost over and it’s time to start thinking about what has happened, who performed well and who didn’t.

Currently ranked no.5, Sascha had a good 2018, but not as fantastic as he hoped for at the beginning of the season. Last year, Sascha won 5 tournaments (Montpellier, Munich, Rome, Washington, and Montreal) while this year he has won “only” 3 tournaments (Munich, Madrid, and Washington).

Once again, the German didn’t have a great run in the slam to lose in the 3rd round in Melbourne, Wimbledon, and the US Open. The Roland Garros went much better after he reached the quarters, but still below his expectations.

Still, Sascha is just 21 and with 9 titles and 3 Masters ATP1000 under his belt, he is definitely one of the hottest players around.

The German is currently in Bercy where he will face Frances Tiafoe in the 2nd round.

On Tuesday, during the pre-tournament interview, Sascha had nice words for the “other youngsters” to say

“I think that a lot of other young guys are playing great. I think there’s a lot of young guys being top 20, top 30 now.

I’ve just managed to win, maybe a few more matches here and there and kind of get to the later stages of the big tournaments, but there’s a lot of other young guys that are doing great.

Tsitsipas is doing really well, Shapovalov has been doing really well this year I thought, especially with the expectations on his shoulders.

It is not easy for us young guys sometimes, we get expected too much from us.”
