Another ordinary day for Maria Sharapova in Wimbledon.
The world no.5 had no major problems to dismiss world no. 44 Alison Riske in straight sets. The Russian Beauty had a slow start (as usual) to win 11 consecutive games after being 1-3 down I the first set.
Some numbers
Maria won 58 points vs. Alison’s 39. Probably the most important stat is Riske’s winning points on her 2nd serve (only 4 out of 20)… you can’t win with that.
Sharapova: I made a slow start
Maria acknowledged that “I made a slow start but I felt better as the match went on. Alison is a great grass court player and I knew it would be a challenge. I am happy to be in the second week after missing out last year.”
Next vs. Flipkens or Kerber
