Federer wins his 99th career title!

Roger beats Copil in Basel to get closer to a very important target.

Federer wins Basel

Roger Federer did it!

The Swiss Legend was struggling to add yet another title to his huge collection and get closer to winning his 100th single tournament.

After conquering Stuttgart, the Swiss Legend lost in the finals in Halle and Cincinnati, in the semis in Shanghai, in the quarters in Wimbledon and in the 4th round at the US Open.

Roger looked a bit tentative at the beginning of his run in Basel to often struggle on his serve. However, the Swiss sensation is not considered by many as the “Greatest” for nothing and he finally found the solution to get through.

The Swiss impressed in the semifinal against Daniil Medvedev (6-1 6-4) and he was spot on in the final against Marius Copil.

The final

Marius Copil was having the week of his life. Ranked no.93 and coming from the qualifications, the Romanian defeated 2 top10 players on his way after edging Marin Cilic (world no.6) and Sascha Zverev (no.5).

Marius looked immediately tuned-in against Federer to conquer an early break in the 3rd game (2-1). Eventually, Federer managed to get that break back in the 6th game (3-3) and everything went to a very tense tiebreak. In fact, even if Roger conquered a 6-3 lead, Copil was unwilling to fold and Federer had to put all his focus and experience to win the point that allowed him to win the opener (7-6).

The Swiss had to crawl back also in the second set after he was broken again in the 2nd game (0-2) to deal with bigger deficits soon after (0-3 and 1-4). However, Roger found his groove to conquer the following 5 games and win this final 7-6 (5) 6-4 after 1 hour and 34 minutes.
