Sacha Zverev reaches the semifinals in style in Basel without dropping his serve for the entire event.
The quarterfinal
The seed no.2 was opposed to the world no.26 Roberto Bautista-Agut in the quarterfinal. The German started in the best possible way after breaking his opponent in the first game (1-0). However, the Spaniard managed to get that break back in the 4th game (2-2) to engage in a “proper” battle. Both players were struggling in holding their serve, and eventually it was Roberto to fold again in the 11th game after he saved 6 break points. (6-5 Zverev). Sascha had to hold his serve soon after to win the opener 7-5.
Things got tricky again for the German in the second set after he was broken in the 2nd game to trail 0-3. Still, the 21-year-old found again his grove to conquer the following 6 games and win the contest 7-5 6-3.
The semifinal against Copil
Sascha will face a surprising Marius Copil (ranked no. 93) in the semifinal. The Romanian is coming straight from the qualifications, and he hasn’t dropped a single set on the way. Interesting enough he has already beaten “a Zverev,” but that was Sascha’s brother Mischa in the first round of the qualifications.
Sascha and Darius have never played each other so far.
NO SETS CONCEDED
