Roger Federer wins his 18th consecutive match in Basel against a good Gilles Simon. Once again, the Swiss had to cope with some holes in his game (namely his service), but eventually he was good enough to find the solution.

The match

Federer had a slow start to find himself trailing 0-3 after being broken in he 2nd game. Later on, the Swiss managed to break back in the 9th game (4-5) before winning the following tiebreak comfortably at 1 (7-6).

The second set was full of breaks (5 in total), and it was the Frenchman to win it 6-4 after the Swiss dropped his serve 3 times (!!!).

The 3rd set was a bit of a drama. Federer looked to be in full control after he conquered a break in the 2nd game to consolidate the lead (3-0 and then 4-1). However, the Maestro dropped his serve in the 7th game for the 5th time and at love (!!!) to find himself battling on a tricky 4-3 scoreline. Simon made it even (4-4), but eventually he couldn’t hold his last game even if he was leading 40-15 and Roger won the contest 7-6 (1) 4-6 6-4 after 2 hours and 34 minutes.

Federer Simon HighlightsNext vs. Medvedev

Roger will face Daniil Medvedev in the semifinal. The head to head is 1-0 for the Swiss that has recently defeated Daniil in Shanghai 6-4 4-6 6-4. The impression is that the Swiss really needs to find continuity in his service games if he wants to move further in the tournament.
