Ferrer badly upset by world no. 118 Kuznetsov in Wimbledon

David Ferrer has been battling with his tennis to since the beginning of the year to sink in the rankings from no.3 to no.7. In the past few weeks he had also some fitness problems as he struggled to recover from a tenacious flu that prevented him from preparing a good Wimbledon.

To be honest, yesterday’s match was not only just about Ferrer. Kuznetsov played a great match against the Spaniard to even bagel (6-0) him in the second set. The match ended 6-7 (5) 6-0 3-6 6-3 6-2.

This match ends a 10 slam quarter final streak for David that has been reaching the last eight in a major since Melbourne 2010. Kuztetsov was vastly superior to score 168 points vs. Ferrer’s 138. The Spaniard lost 9 (!!!) service games after conceding 21break points. Match Stats

Ferrer: He surprised me

David admitted his opponent was the better player and he didn’t go and find any excuse “I lost because my opponent was better. I think I played a good game, but he surprised to me and…  a lot of winners. In the important moments, he was more aggressive than me.”
