The young Canadian played the veteran Daniela Hantuchova to overcome her in straight and tough sets.
In the first set Genie managed to recover a 3-5 deficit to win 4 consecutive games and win 7-5. The second set was also a close encounter with Daniela breaking Genie in the 5th game to be immediately broken back.
