Nadal tames Klizan to reach the second round in Wimbledon

Rafa doesn’t disappoint!

The world no.1 had the difficult task to play an in-form Martin Klizan in his opener. The Slovakian managed to win the first set (4-6) to give the impression that some old ghosts (Darcis and Rosol) were back, but this time the Spaniard found the solution to overcome his opponent and win 4-6 6-3 6-3 6-3.

All in all it wasn’t Nadal’s best performance. The Spaniard looked awkward on grass and he has committed too many unforced errors (25) and he conceded too many breaks (3), but at the end of the day was good enough to get to the second round.

Some Numbers

Rafa scored 125 points vs. Klizan’s 109. The Spaniard has won just 41% of the points on his second serve, he committed 25 unforced errors (too many for his style) and he has conceded 3 breaks out of 13 break points (too many!). The World no.1 was once again great in his break point conversion (6 out of 15). Match Stats

Nadal: The court was a bit slippery

Rafa was happy for his win even if he was aware that it wasn’t his finest performance “I was able to fight. I was able to try to find some solutions, some changes during the match. I try my best in every moment. If I lose the first set, I try to win the second. If I win the second, I try to win the third and then the fourth.

Today Klizan was able to play aggressively. The court is a little bit more slippery. In the beginning of the tournament, it’s more difficult to move on the court.”

Next vs. Rosol

Rafa will play the second round against Lukas Rosol. Head to head is 1-1, 1-0 for Rosol on grass after his historical win against the Spaniard in Wimbledon 2012 and that was also the second round.
