Tsitsipas reaches the 2nd round in Basel with straight sets win

Stefanos Tsitsipas keeps on rising.

The 20-year-old has just won his first ATP title in Stockholm, and he looked extremely solid in his opener in Basel against Jeremy Chardy on Wednesday.

The match

The Greek grabbed a fast 5-1 lead at the very beginning of the encounter to just breeze through the 1st set and win 6-2. Stefanos impressed for his “no-frills” tennis and for the fact that he was entirely in control of the situation.

However, Chardy put a better fight in the second set especially after he had a very tough hold in the 1^st game. Then the affair went straight to the tiebreak with both players holding serve easily. Once again, Tsitsipas was rock solid in the breaker to conquer a strong 6-1 lead before winning the encounter 6-2 7-6 (3) in 86 minutes.

Next vs. Gojowczyk

Stefanos will face Peter Gojowczyk (ranked no.60). The head to head is 1-0 for the Greek that is the hot favorite to reach the quarters.
