Stefanos Tsitsipas keeps on rising.
The 20-year-old has just won his first ATP title in Stockholm, and he looked extremely solid in his opener in Basel against Jeremy Chardy on Wednesday.
The match
The Greek grabbed a fast 5-1 lead at the very beginning of the encounter to just breeze through the 1st set and win 6-2. Stefanos impressed for his “no-frills” tennis and for the fact that he was entirely in control of the situation.
However, Chardy put a better fight in the second set especially after he had a very tough hold in the 1st game. Then the affair went straight to the tiebreak with both players holding serve easily. Once again, Tsitsipas was rock solid in the breaker to conquer a strong 6-1 lead before winning the encounter 6-2 7-6 (3) in 86 minutes.
Next vs. Gojowczyk
Stefanos will face Peter Gojowczyk (ranked no.60). The head to head is 1-0 for the Greek that is the hot favorite to reach the quarters.
