Dimitrov wins a solid opener to keep his bid for the Wimbledon title

A good win for Grigor Dimitrov in Wimbledon.

The Bulgarian didn’t face a huge hurdle as world no.150 Ryan Harrison seems to be a bit lost, but Grigor looked as he really knew what to do. He was in full control of the situation and he was absolutely comfortable with his tennis.  A recipe for a great tournament.

The match lasted only till the first set tiebreak after a set dominated by big serves. Then it was game over. Grigor won the breaker at 1 to then break Harrison 4 times in the following sets without conceding a single service game. The final result was 7-6 (1) 6-3 6-2.

Some numbers

Dimitrov scored 101 points vs. Harrison’s 69. What didn’t work 100% for the Bulgarian was his serve as he blasted only 4 aces (3 double faults). But Grigor still managed to win 82% of the points on his first serve (Ryan only 68%). The Bulgarian was perfect in defending the break points he conceded (4/4) and he broke the American 4 times on 7 occasions. Match Stats.

Next vs. Saville

Grigor will play 2013 Wimbledon junior champion Luke Saville. The young Australian defeated Thiem in 4 sets.
