Tough luck for Stan Wawrinka that had to end is 2018 for a back injury.
What happened
Stan was training with Roger Federer on Sunday when he got injured to his back. The Swiss no.2 had to take the decision to withdraw from the tournament and also from the next event in Bercy where he would have started from the qualifications.
Wawrinka commented: “I turned my back, and retiring was the only decision I could make. It was a challenging year, both physically and mentally. But I‘m motivated for the new season
.”Ranked no.68, Stan was recovering from a knee operation that he sustained in 2017. In 2018 he reached the semifinals in Sofia and St. Petersburg in ATP250 events. In addition, he got to the quarters in Cincinnati where he lost to Federer.
