Vandeweghe wins her maiden title in ‘s-Hertogenbosch

In a draw with stars such as Halep, Cibulkova, Bouchard and Suarez Navarro you wouldn’t have expected a final between world no.69 Vandeweghe and world no.90 Zheng, but that’s what happens in Wimbledon warm-up tournaments, especially the week before the Championships.

The final was one way traffic with the American conceding just 6 games to the Chinese in 70 minutes. This is Coco’s maiden title and it is even more precious if you take in account the fact that  Vandeweghe was coming straight from the qualifications and on her path she has beaten great players such as Muguruza and Koukalova.

Vandeweghe commented “I usually take tournaments one match at a time, so early in the week I was just focused on being prepared for my first match in the qualification. I had basically flown in the day before the qualification, so I didn’t have any practice on the courts here, or anything like that.

“Once I took care of that first match I just went from there, and I got more and more comfortable on the courts. I played a ton of points and games, and a lot of long matches and three-setters as well.

In Wimbledon Coco will play once again Muguruza. Let’s see if she can beat her again.
