Stefanos Tsitsipas

The match

The Italian was struggling with his right foot, but he was still quite able to play good tennis. Therefore, Stefanos had to keep his focus to avoid nasty surprises.

The first set

The most important part of the match was the end of the first set. In fact, after Stefanos conquered the decisive break in the 8th game (5-3), he had to work hard to serve out the set after saving 2 consecutive break points (15-40) and squandering 4 set points (2 of those with double faults). Eventually, the Greek find the solution (6-3) to finally win the opener.

The second set

The second set was much smoother for Tsitsipas. In fact, after he conquered the first break already in the 3rd game (2-1), Fognini called the trainer and it was pretty clear that he was struggling to put his best effort because of his injury. Stefanos kept his cool to break the Italian again in the 7th game (5-2) before winning 6-3 6-2 in just 76 minutes.

Stefanos will face either John Isner or Ernests Gulbis for the title. This is Stefanos 3rd final of the season after Barcelona and Montreal where he lost to Nadal on both occasions.
