Simona Halep had another fantastic season in 2018 to finish the year as the deserving world no.1.
The Romanian started the season in the best possible way after winning the title in Shenzhen. Later in the month, she reached the final at the Australian Open after winning a couple of thrilling battles against Laura Davis (4-6 6-4 15-13) and Angelique Kerber (6-3 4-6 9-7).
Later on, Simona reached the final Rome before finally conquering her 1st slam at the French Open. The Romanian had another great stint in North America after she won Montreal and she reached the final in Cincinnati where she also had a championship point.

Unfortunately, the last part of her season was marred by a recent back injury that has prevented Simona from properly compete in Wuhan and Beijing and to withdraw from Moscow and the WTA Finals.
