Kerber splits with Coach Wim Fissette after less than 1 year

Angelique parts ways with Fissette after a short cooperation.

Angelique Kerber is already changing her coach after she announced the new partnership with Wim Fissette only in November 2017. Fissette has a great coaching story after he partnered with the likes of Kim Clijsters, Simona Halep, and Vika Azarenka and he seemed to be a great match for the German.

With Wim, Angelique reached the semifinals at the Australian Open before winning Wimbledon. However, she is ranked “only” no.3 in the world.

Kerber’s management team released the following statement.

“Angelique Kerber ends collaboration with Wim Fissette

Wim Fissette is — with immediate effect — exempted from his duties as coach of Angelique Kerber. In spite of the successful cooperation since the beginning of the season, this step is necessary due to differences of opinion regarding the future of the alignment.

We would like to thank Wim Fissette for his professional commitment, which has led to the achievement of the season’s goals. Particular mention should be made of the profit from of the Wimbledon title and the return to the top 3 of the world rankings.

In November 2017, Wim Fissette was the successor to her long-time coach Torben Beltz, with whom Angelique Kerber won the Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open and US Open and became No. 1 in the world rankings.

The succession of Wim Fissette will be announced after the WTA final in Singapore.”
