When Nick Kyrgios plays, the only thing you may be sure of is that controversy may very well arise. Nick had one of his trademark turbulent matches in the Wimbledon first round when defeating the world no. 219 Paul Jubb 3-6 6-1 7-5 6-73 7-5. After his latest match, he was harshly criticized by the Daily Mail and Piers Morgan.
Kyrgios vs. the line judge
Nick had a rather quirky spat with a line judge when she reported him for saying something. Talking with the umpire, he commented:
“Has one person today come to see her speak?
No. I understand, but why is she doing that? Not one person in the stadium has come here to watch her do anything! Not one person.
Like, you know what I mean? You got fans, but she has got none. What did I do? Like, come on. I know, but what? She just selfishly walks to you in the middle of a game because she’s a snitch!”
Kyrgios spitting at a fan
Nick also didn’t leave a good impression after spitting in the direction of a fan after winning his match.
The criticism
Ian Herbert (Daily Mail) was not impressed at all by the behavior of the Australian calling him the “Wimbledon’s most cretinous player.” in his article for the popular tabloid.
Piers Morgan didn’t go light as well saying: “UPDATE: Kyrgios has upgraded himself from massive d*ck to nasty bully.”
