Garcia wins Tianjin

Caroline Garcia wins the first title of her season in the end… of the season!

The Frenchwoman was expecting more from her 2018 after a fantastic 2017. Anyway, Caroline still managed to conquer the title in Tianjin without dropping a single set for the entire week also after beating the former world no.1 Karolina Pliskova in the final.

The match

The key of the contest was a dramatic 1st set tiebreaker. In fact, Garcia conquered a solid 5-1 lead before losing 4 consecutive points (5-6) and save a crucial set point. Later on, the world no.16 kept her cool to win the tiebreak (9-7).

That was a huge disappointment for Pliskova that imploded in the second set (0-5). The Czech tried to stage a comeback (5-3), but eventually Garcia kept her ground to win the match 7-6 (7) 6-3 in 1 hour and 43 minutes.

After the match, Caroline commented

“It’s very nice for me to win a title again because the emotion and the feeling after the match point is something very special and very difficult to describe.  what you’re working on all year long to get, this trophy in your hand and those emotions.”

This is Garcia’s 6th career title, and she is projected to gain 4 places after this week to be the new world no.12.
