The ATP has just announced the introduction of coaching after Wimbledon on a trial basis. Rafael Nadal’s coach Carlos Moya and Nick Kyrgios are against the decision.
According to Carlos Moya, tennis is an individual sport, and tennis players must find the solution themselves. Moya commented:
“My position is that I am not in favor of the introduction of ‘coaching.’
I think that precisely tennis is characterized by the absence of help on the court, it is a solo battle for the tennis player, nothing more. Nothing to do with other sports.”
Nick Kyrgios
Former Serena Williams’ coach Patrick Mouratoglou has always been extremely positive about the introduction of coaching in tennis. However, his position was not shared by Nick Kyrgios who commented on one of Patrick’s posts saying:
“Completely disagree [about coaching]. Loses one of the only unique traits that no other sport had. The player had to figure out things on his own. That was the beauty of it. What happens if a high-profile player versus a low-ranked player who doesn’t have or afford a coach?”
