Novak Djokovic wins another good match in Shanghai to reach the semifinal without dropping a single set on the way.
The quarterfinal
The Serbian had a very convincing performance against Kevin Anderson in the quarters. Djokovic offered a brutal resistance in the first set before winning the tiebreak at 1. That was enough to put many doubts in Anderson’s mind and Nole got a strong 4-1 lead in the second set before winning 7-6 (1) 6-3.
Saving a set point was key. DJOKOVIC
Nole had to save a set point on his serve in the first set when he was 5-6 down and according to the world no.3 that was a key moment. Djokovic commented
“I faced one break point today, and it was a set point. I managed to pull through that one, and I haven’t lost too many points on my serve. So I think that’s a part of my game that maybe is undervalued in a way. But that helps me obviously when I have an opportunity to step in on a second serve or swing through in the baseline points. The conditions are very quick, so holding your serve comfortably is probably the key.”
The semifinal against Zverev
Nole will face Sascha Zverev in the semifinal. The head to head is 1-0 for the German, but that was on clay.
