We were wondering for long time who would have been Murray’s new coach after Lendl dropped him. There have been many speculations, but finally we had the name: Amelie Mauresmo!!!!
The rumor was going around for sometime as Amelie was in Murray’s box during the Roland Garros and people were talking about a possible female coach for him.
Amelie has already coached Llodra and she helped him to win the tournament in Eastbourne in 2010; then she coached Marion Bartoli that has won Wimbledon last year. Currently Mauresmo is leading the Fed Cup team for France. So she has definitely a great pedigree.
From Murray
The Wimbledon champion commented “I’m excited by the possibilities of the new partnership and Amélie is someone I have always looked up to and admired. She’s faced adversity plenty of times in her career, but was an amazing player and won major titles, including Wimbledon.
I have a very strong coaching team already in place, but I think Amélie brings with her experience and tactical expertise and will push us all to improve. Everyone I know talks very highly of Amélie, as a person and coach, and I’m convinced that her joining the team will help us push on – I want to win more grand slams.”
From Amelie
Mauresmo is very happy to help Andy “I’m really excited to be able to work with Andy. He’s an amazingly talented tennis player and I feel I have plenty to offer both him and the team around him. I’m looking forward to getting down to work and helping him win more grand slams.”
So was it a good idea for Andy to hire Mauresmo? Time will tell.
