Federer survives Roberto Bautista Agut

Roger beats the Spaniard in 3 sets. VIDEO

Roger Federer had to work hard to reach the quarters in Shanghai.

After beating Daniil Medvedev in 3 sets, Roger found the solution again at the very end also against Roberto Bautista Agut in the 3rd round.

Similarly to the Russian, the Spaniard was also playing fantastic tennis against the seed no.1. In fact, after losing the first set (6-4), Roberto impressed in the second set after he broke Federer twice (and the court is very fast) before winning 6-2.

Roger and Roberto went toe to toe for the entire 3rd set, but once again the Maestro found the solution at the very end when he broke the Spaniard in the 9th game before winning 6-4 2-6 6-4.

It was crucial being calm. FEDERER

Soon after the match, Roger commented

“I’m actually quite happy. I thought that Bautista really had to raise his level of play in that second set to stay with me. I mean, he really caught fire, I thought. I served, I think, 80 percent in that second set and got broken twice…

At the end, he got tight. I’m happy that, because of my match yesterday, I was able to stay maybe calmer, even this time around, and come up with a really good game to break at 4-4 and then serve it out was great. I was very happy.”

Next vs. Nishikori

Roger will face Kei Nishikori in the quarters. The head to head is 5-2 for Roger, but 1-all on hard courts.
