Denis Shapovalov did not have a fantastic experience at the Queen’s Club this year. The Canadian player lost as early as in the first round at the local ATP 500 event at the hands of Tommy Paul. Things got even more awkward soon after following a rather aggressive tweet from Denis, who accused the Club of discriminating against WTA players.
Shapovalov posted the following tweet:
“Ironic that @TheQueensClub is named after a powerful, extraordinary woman yet is openly discriminating against professional female tennis players by not allowing them to train at the Club when they need to prepare for @Wimbledon . Time to review this policy #tennis #genderequality.”
This Club replied: “During the first five days of the tournament, the courts on site are solely for the use of ATP members. There are numerous other grass courts in London available to professional players who wish to train on grass.”
Denis’ tweet was rather polarizing, with some fans supporting the Canadian player and others criticizing his behavior.
