A match with Gael Monfils cannot be a normal one.
The Frenchman started in horrible fashion to find himself 2 sets down against Murray. There was lots of winds and Monfils couldn’t find his tennis. Then the renaissance: the winds calmed down and Gael found his range to win the 3rd and 4th set putting the home crowd on fire. After Monfils won the 4th set 6-1, we all had the impression that the Frenchman was up to another upset. That wasn’t the case as Gael’s tennis went south and Murray recovered his confidence to bagel Monfils in the decider. The final score was a quirky 6-4 6-1 4-6 1-6 6-0. Match Stats.

Andy tried to comment this weird encounter “It was a hard match. Conditions changed quite a lot during it. It was extremely windy in the beginning, and then it was pretty calm at the end and very slow. It was obviously very cold at the end of the match.
He really raised his game in the third set. I thought I played a pretty good third set. Fourth set wasn’t my best, but it was a fun match.”
