Naomi Osaka wins a tough match in the quarters in Beijing.
The Japanese sensation impressed for defeating a tough opponent without playing her best tennis. Naomi was continuously in trouble against the home favorite and world no.45 Shuai Zhang that was leading the Japanese for the entire match.
The Chinese conquered a 3-0 lead in the opener before winning 6-3. Things got extremely complicated for Naomi in the second set after she was 3-6 0-2 down, but eventually, she found her way back before winning 6-4 and bring the affair to the decider.
Naomi was in deep waters also in the third set after being 1-4 and then 3-5 down. Once more, Osaka impressed in finding the last sprint: the Japanese conceded only 4 points in the last 4 games to win the match 3-6 6-4 7-5 in 2 hours and 33 minutes.
I am just thinking a match at a time. OSAKA
Soon after the match, Naomi commented
“She’s such an incredible player, and it was really hard to play against her here. I’m just thinking one match at a time, and it can only get harder from here.”
The semi vs. Sevastova H2H
Naomi will face Anastasija Sevastova in the semifinal. The head to head is 1-1. Even if Sevastova has won the last encounter, Osaka is the obvious favorite to reach the final (if she is still fit after this tough quarterfinal).
