Aryna Sabalenka confirms once more why she is one of the most exciting players on tour.

The Belarussian was in a desperate situation in the 3rd round in Beijing against the defending champion Caroline Garcia while trailing 5-7 2-5. The Frenchwoman was all over the places, but Aryna refused to bow, and eventually she conquered the decisive break (at 15) in the 9th game of the second set when Caroline was trying to serve out the match.

That break changed utterly the dynamics of the match with Aryna holding her serve at love (5-5) and pushing Garcia as hard as she could. Eventually, Sabalenka won the 2nd set at the breaker, and that was too much for Caroline that imploded in the decider. Aryna won the match 5-7 7-6 (3) 6-0.

After the match, Aryna revealed what helped her to get back in that fashion to comment

“I was just like, Aryna, c’mon. Really nothing to lose. You’re down 5-7, 2-5. Just try to do your best.

I was really lucky that I won the second set. After that, I don’t know what happened with her, but she didn’t run that well like the first and second set. She didn’t put the ball in like before… But before the third set she played really unbelievable tennis, I couldn’t do anything. I didn’t have my serve. I don’t know what happened. She played really well. At the moment I’m just so happy that I won the second set. The third set, I was lucky she didn’t play.”

Next vs. Wang Qiang – h2h

In the quarters, Aryna will face the Chinese no.1 Wang Qiang. They have never played each other so far.
