Too much Nadal for Thiem. Just too much.
Rafa gave a lesson to the young gun to drop just 7 games. The King of Clay was in full control of the match in the first two sets when he grabbed a solid 4-1 lead in both of them. Nadal struggled a bit only in the 3rd set as he was broken in the third game (1-2) to then be 1-3 down. But that was it! Rafa regrouped to get the following 5 games and win 6-2 6-2 6-3.
Thiem: It was a great feeling.
The Austrian was still very happy to be there to comment “It was a great feeling to play on this court, the Philippe Chatrier.
He has lost one match here in 10 years, so I knew that it was going be the biggest challenge in my tennis career. In general, I didn’t play bad… I did a lot of rookie mistakes, but against a player like him you always want to keep the points short. His game was pretty much what I expected. I hope I can take a lot with me from this match.”
Next vs. Mayer
Rafa will play next against Leonardo Mayer. Head to head is 2-0 for the Spaniard that has never conceded a single set to Leonardo. We expect the same in the 3rd round.
